The Justice Department is frustrated with Donald Trump. At least, that’s what CNN’s Evan Perez told Erin Burnett on Tuesday.
During an appearance on “Erin Burnett Out Front,” Perez told Burnett that folks over at the Justice Department are not happy with Donald Trump calling them out on Twitter and tweeting comments that make their jobs harder.
Perez said, “The frustration goes both ways here between the Justice Department; where officials feel that the president tweets and some of his comments and interviews have actually made things worse; and prompted the Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to have to appoint a special prosecutor; a special counselor to oversee the investigation.”
This report comes in the midst of several reports that the DOJ’s head, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, offered Trump his resignation letter after the two got into a heated argument over former FBI Director Robert Mueller being appointed the special counselor over the Russian investigation.
Due to the congressional investigations into Trump’s 2016 Presidential Campaign members,' which included then Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), alleged role in helping the Russians hacked into the Democratic National Committee’s systems, Sessions recused himself from the Russian investigation.
The recusal left Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein over the investigation. Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel after Rosenstein found himself caught in the political crossfires surrounding the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.
Trump and his administration suggested that Rosenstein is why Comey was given his walking papers.
And then, Trump went on NBC “Nightly News” with Lester Holt and told him that he fired Comey on his own.
This, however, wasn’t the worst of it. The worst came after Trump, according to The New York Times, told the Russian Foreign Minister and Russian Ambassador to the U.S., that he fired James Comey because he was a “real nut job” and that the Russian Investigation was over.
Fast forward to this week and a person will see that the Russian investigation has expanded.
According to reports, Mueller has expanded his probe to include former Trump Campaign Manager Paul Manafort.
There are also reports that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has turned over documents to the Senate Intelligence Committee.
Trump is not happy about any of this. So he did what he always does, which is to vent his frustration via Twitter.
On Monday, Trump decided he would vent his frustrations by taking a shot at the Justice Department.
He tweeted, “The Justice Dept. should ask for an expedited hearing of the watered down Travel Ban before the Supreme Court and seek much tougher version!”
Here, Trump is trying to blame the Justice Department for the travel ban, which he signed off on, not being in effect.
Hence, this is Jeff Sessions’ fault like it was the intelligence community’s fault that then President Obama allegedly “wiretapped” Trump Tower.
In other words, Trump has to hit Sessions with something, like he did the intelligence community, because Trump blames Sessions, just as he does the intelligence community, for the Russian investigation.
And the something that Trump is subtly hitting the head of the DOJ with is the travel ban which he, President Donald Trump, signed off on.
The folks over at the DOJ aren’t having it. Evan Perez quoted folks in the DOJ as saying, “They feel as if some of the president’s own comments have exasperated the problems for him.”
